Yes, I’m a winter-born child, but spring completely shakes me up, it awakens me and brings new energy. There’s nothing better than spring travel. Cities have a different vibe, streets come alive, daytime is longer just enough to give you some extra hours for sneaking around a city. And on top of all that there’s Easter and May 1^st when we can combine two vacation days to get 5 days of fun to explore cities.

Annecy

A city in the eastern part of France, located on the shores of a lake of the same name, crisscrossed with canals and the river Thiou. This “Pearl of the French Alps” is known for narrow streets, The Palais de I’Isle – a castle built on the river, which throughout history changed its purpose from being a courthouse to a prison. It is shown in the picture above. Charming little cafes and bars situated by the water in numerous passages are also city landmarks. From Geneva you can reach Annecy by bus for EUR 5, and to Geneva from Belgrade you can get by plane with EasyJet.

As long as you’re in Geneva, go for a walk by the lake, eat Movenpick ice-cream and stop for a Fondu – melted cheese in which you dip small pieces of bread.

Prague

To be honest, Prague is fantastic to visit any time of the year, but the view from Hradčany over the green city and the Vltava is much more picturesque in spring. Enjoy Becherovka, herbal liqueur and some of the supreme Czech beers like Pilsner, Urquell, Staropramen, Budvar Budweiser, Gambrinus and Bernard.

Sail on the Vltava. Visit Kafka’s museum. Take a walk through the narrowest street in the world, Vinarna Čertovka, where two persons cannot pass each other, where traffic lights were installed on each end of the street so that people know when it’s free to go. You may have heard an anecdote about a corpulent German man who got stuck, so they had to use soap to get him out. Go for a walk in Golden Lane. Visit the Toy Museum.

Climb to the Petřín Lookout Tower (Petřínská rozhledna) which resembles the Eiffel Tower. Cross Charles Bridge. Take a photo of The Prague astronomical clock. Take a photo of John Lennon Wall opposite the French embassy. Have a twirl with the Dancing House (Tančící dům). Enjoy the taste of Trdelnik.

Stockholm

Someone might say:” Why would I go there? It’s cold there.” I say:” The temperatures are very decent in spring. And the city is worth visiting even in the rain!” My advice would be that you exchange money in Serbia, before leaving, to avoid paying provision.

“And what can I visit there?” – someone would ask. There’s a whole list of things, actually. Visit one of the most fantastic museums I have ever visited: Vasamuseet – The Vasa Museum. The ticket costs SEK 130 or around EUR 13.60. Enjoy some Glogg, a type of mulled wine. Cross at least 10 out of 57 bridges connecting 14 islands, that make up this city. Visit Kungliga Slottet – the Royal Palace. Enjoy sunset at Gamla Stan, surrounded by colorful buildings on Stortorget square, which is also the location of the Nobel Museum/ Nobelmuseet. Take a ride on the Stockholm metro. Each station has its own artistic story. Enjoy the sight of trees in bloom in Kungsträdgården.

Ljubljana

In springtime, the road to Ljubljana, across Slovenia, abounds in greenery, gorgeous mountains and fantastic roads. It’s a pleasure to drive and enjoy the view spreading out in front of you. Spring adds a special flavor to Bohinj Lake and Bled, which you can reach easily and quickly. There’s also the Postojna cave, the home of nature’s wonder – the olm.

Take a picture with the symbol of Ljubljana – Dragon on the Dragon Bridge. A tail curling around the bridge pillar, open jaws, sharp nails – it leaves quite an impression. As sunrays play on the surface of the Ljubljanica, go for a walk down the river, leave a lovelock with a name of your loved one or simply enjoy the witticism of people who did so. From pacifiers to bike locks. Continue down the pedestrian zone to Tromostovje – another town symbol and enjoy the view of the monument to France Presern, the greatest Slovenian poet. If you cross to the other side of the river, you can have a coffee in one of numerous cafes located in old houses or buy a souvenir or good cheese in Glavna trznica. Take a ride on the funicular (EUR 5) to the Ljubljana Castle. Enjoy the panorama of the city. You can even organize a wedding up there. Feed squirrels in the largest park in Ljubljana – Tivoli. Another option to enjoy panoramic view is Neboticnika café on top of the tallest building in Ljubljana.

Colmar

Colmar is a fairy-tale town. Fantastic bakeries with French pastry, cafes decorated with romantic details make this town different and special. No, it has nothing to do with ski equipment. In the street, you can get excellent cheese and wild game meat sausages. Climate is ideal for growing grapevine for which this area is famous for. Colmar is also known as a hometown of a famous sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, the author of the Statue of Liberty.

Enjoy the old, pretty well-preserved part of the town, take a photo of the Statue of Liberty on a roundabout, in the city entrance – make several rounds, the Statue poses quite nicely. One look at the pictures of this town and it will bewitch you forever. Go on a boat trip through numerous canals that give a special charm to the city.

To Colmar you can get via Basel. Wizzair flies to Basel for EUR 40, and from Basel you can take a train for EUR 10. Use that time and go for a tour around the beautiful Swiss town situated on the Rayna river, or you can also visit Strasburg, another French city that has been greatly influenced by German culture.
